Hello my dear friends across the globe, Hope all of you are doing well, WISH YOU ALL A GREAT WEEK AHEAD 🙂 This post is regarding a strange thing which I observed in WP in the past few weeks.

I have been with this blog for almost one year and I have been active from past two months compared to previous months.  Like any other blogger, I too wished to have the good number of followers who will spare their valuable time for my blog too. I honestly expect them to read what I write/post, then express their views in the form of likes/comments.

I have found recently getting more likes for my posts. I get notifications of most of my posts being liked by my new followers just one after the other, that too within seconds (I really wonder how it is being done). How will one person be able to read all my posts in few seconds gap when most of my posts are lengthy ones. That gives me the impression that my new fellow friend is just hitting the “like button” without even reading what is the content. This seems he /she is doing it just “for the sake” of blogging, some kind of mercy is being poured over me (that is the exact feeling I get). This is an extremely sad case for me cry. I don’t want any pseudolikes for what I write.

  • Let me tell you , my dear friend: by just doing this you are discouraging the writer in me. I do expect my writing to be reached far amongst the readers. I do like to receive appreciations/views/suggestions/criticism for what I post in this WP space.
  • I strongly request you not to like my posts without reading it. I am not a person who is fond of/ greedy for the shooting up of the number of likes for my posts.  
  • Whether I get more “FOLLOWERS” or not, whether I get more/less number of “LIKES”, I will still continue writing until I feel to stop 😉 I guess the latter is impossible for me to think, at this mode of my life since I am extremely grateful for the booster doses which I receive from my beloved ones ♥

  4. Well I don’t want to say anything against anyone…. I just accept what comes not that it increases likes on my blog..
    But all we can do is be who we are,if we are good readers let our follower and whom we follow know ,that we care for their words from heart and do take time to Read. Concerned more of what is in our hand letting go what we cannot control. Learning life.

    Well, it’s more like a trend on Facebook and Twitter and also other Social Media platforms. Like and move on. Only advice for writers, just keep writing. 🙂

      1. Oh yes, I agree with you. Sometimes I wonder, or rather want that superpower, to read that fast. 😀

        And to add to that not many are in favor of long posts (that is anything more than the acceptable limit of 300-400 word posts). 🙂

      2. Yes 😀 I think Elaine had the same exp, someone marathon liked her latest posts. Unless they have reading speed of 1000kmph, its not possible 😉

        yeah many don’t like lengthy posts… :p 😦 most of mine r lengthy , now i have scheduled it and made it posted less frequent 😉

      7. Never adjust or compromise on your writing. It’s your blog and write because it makes you happy. 🙂
        What I have experienced as a writer, it is important to be self-motivated. So, enjoy the writing process. 🙂

  7. I will hit the “Like” button at times without leaving a comment because I don’t always have something to say or comment on. You’re doing fine. just keep writing.

    I truly wants to know that my stories and my writing is appreciated too.. and that
    It’s really liked or not ..

    It’s not really about gaining an audience that doesn’t even have an idea 💡 of your work / writing

  12. I appreciate you writing this Elaine. Although I do love the views and likes, there is something more and special to someone who actually reads and have something to comment on the post. I love interaction because it lets me know that I am actually reaching and speaking to someone. Whether the feedback is positive or negative, I love responding because it just adds a different dimension to blogging.

  14. I think it happens to all of us. I think the person really do mean well. Just like you can have 500 follows and have only 100 that actually stop by and read, so in reality, you only have 100 follows. Me personally, I sometime like because I have nothing to say, and other times I push like because I don’t have time to read, but I stamp it with like because It reminds me to read it later when I’m extra busy. Because I’m the type who honestly want to read all my followers material, I sometimes get overwhelmed and push like to let that person know I like your work and I still see you . (because I read so many, I just couldn’t read more.) I wrote something like this too called, Where everybody knows your name. So I know how you feel. Keep going, we do value you☺❤

  15. Lot of bloggers are getting dissapointed by random followers, like’s on a spree of seconds n ghost followers…Have experienced it too… Intitally I thought its a way of doing things in this blogosphere, now I kind of ignore n never follow them n keep writing n posting what I like 😊

Totally agree… but theres one more angle to the likes with more reads…. i think the new bloggers engage themselves in doing so because they want to have more followers.. its natural that if a person is showering 10 likes back to back on u then u are bound to visit his blog…. they fetch views, likes and followers this way… sort of marketing their own blog 😃

      1. Its true… they pick this up from the weekly tutorials where they encourage new bloggers to visit, read, like and comment but they conviniently forget the reading part

  18. I think many people are doing it for like backs…. actually agree with you, my blog is kinda therapy for me and I really want people to read my thoughts and maybe leave some comments with advices… cause almost all my posts end with with asking some help and advices xD good luck xx

I too had a similar opinion about blogging and that is why I stop writing… Mine is a very unfortunate condition that nobody said any worthy comment on my stories… Actually I need criticisms but I was ridiculed buy the likes… Now I am here to read posts and to make comments…L really like your posts, I already expressed this opinion about your writings… You are amazing even in this type of an opinion, which is true genuine to the heart and with the cartons you made it really fantastic… Dear friend never stop writing… It is the only fresh breath that one gets at the time of stress and tension… If you need motivation read Vijay Tendulkar’s articles on writing… Best of luck.👍

      1. I will also agree with having experienced “friendly likes as a pay back” when I liked someone’s blog post and that person acknowledges it back as a shower.

        As you put it, we do a hard work of making a quality post. A post that might help someone who’s searching for some relevant information on the internet.A like does nothing. There are better ways to appreciate a post… engaging..commenting and re-blogging! Hope you’ll agree with this one!

  21. I noticed it once too and then I wondered how is it possible – even opening a post and going to the likes without reading takes more than one second, so I don’t know, could it be something on the side of wordpress? Anyhow, I never give a like without reading

  24. Yes, there is some kinda epidemic going on…I get the same problem! It’s quite simple to do if you go in your reader as opposed to an email, per I just found out about this recently myself. I’m sure some do it per time restraints, but it shouldn’t be the ONLY form of engagement. You should take the time at some point to comment & share too. I will definitely save this article to reblog 🙂

  30. I can totally relate to this. Its such a bummer to realize that people just like your post without even reading its contents. At times, I’m left with a dilemma to be happy or sad about it because what is the use of posting if your audience is merely liking it to get a follow back. It kills the whole idea of blogging for genuine writers.

  37. It’s always the views that should matter more to a blogger than the number of followers or likes. It hurts me too, when my posts get more likes than views. Clearly, someone is just being obligatory :\

  40. It’s more than just mashing the like button. What’s happening is that you’re in a forum where everyone has a voice, everyone has a thing they want to say, and everyone is screaming at once to get attention. One of the quickest ways they’ve found to do this is to “engage” with others, because others tend to engage back. This is even in the tips that WP offers for new bloggers: get out there and engage with others!

    Thing is, everyone has an ego. They want everyone coming in to read what they have to say but not many of them are going out to hear others. They want to take the least path of resistance an minimal effort to “engage”.

    They hit like, move on, and wait for the new subs to roll in.

    I’ve subscribed to this blog on the strength of this post alone.

Thank you so much Josh for being honest and giving me ur valuable time with such a well expressed view about how the new bloggers are interested in just increasing their viewerships instead of being honestly following the talented writers in this WP forum. I prefer to accept the truth than the sweet lie 😊 I will try to read/follow ur blog when I am back to the WP in full swing. Currently I cant assure about reading. I would prefer to read each person’s article with time and give my honest opinions 😊 stay connected and write more creatively 😊

      1. Your post struck a chord with me. I’ve been noticing this on my end for a bit. On the one hand, you don’t want to discourage interaction but on the other, you want that interaction to be meaningful. I’m making it a point to like only what I read based on my experiences and try to comment meaningfully (rather than just a quick “agree!”).

  43. I am with you on this. It can be frustrating when you write something and nobody seems to read and the likes are rising. Engagement thru comments (sharing is even better) is inspiring.

    I had a blog that I started in 2004 and there was a post that sparked a discussion and then later arguments. It was scary at first to read the opposing views but later I thought it’s better than nothing. Sadly, I decided to stop blogging thru that blog after 2012. Long story.

    There is a new blog that I have for the purpose of promoting content writing. As I have been observing, blogging is more engaging in 2004 (in my case). Perhaps it is because that blog is more personal and tackles different issues, not a particular niche only.
